A Brief History

In 1989 a group of women concerned at the lack of resources available for women in the Wide Bay/Burnett region formed a women’s health group. For the following two years the group met on a regular basis, organised and participated in seminars on women’s health issues, networked and liaised with various organisations to assess the needs of women in the region.

In 1991 funding for a full-time service was granted and in 1994 the centre was officially named the Wide Bay Women’s Health Centre Inc to reflect its service delivery mandate across the region.

An elected Management Committee made up of diverse members from the community administers the Wide Bay Women’s Health Centre and day-to-day operations are coordinated by the Director and staff.
